Destinations · Piauí, Brazil
A lively kite village in Piauí, and the finish line of our three-day downwinder.
The spot
Barra Grande is a small village on the coast of Piauí, with bars and restaurants that make it a natural place to celebrate the end of a long ride. It is quieter than Jericoacoara and keeps the feel of a fishing community.
The last leg into Barra Grande is the biggest day of our three-day route: 50 km from Maceió, with flat sections and choppy water around the estuary, passing the remote fishing village of Curimãs.
Getting there
The nearest airport is Parnaíba (PHB). From Jericoacoara, Barra Grande is about 3 hours by 4x4 along the coast.
Nearby spots
Macapá. A river-mouth spot a short drive from Barra Grande, known for its flat water.
Delta do Parnaíba. River channels and mangroves west of Barra Grande, reached on day four of the Jericoacoara to Atins route.
